Abraham considered his body and Sarah’s body as though dead

due to old age and barrenness

but he placed his faith in the God who raises the dead.

(Romans 4:17-19)


I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.

He drew me up from the desolate pit, out of the miry bog,

and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

(Psalm 40)


Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD,

and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.

Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments.

And the angel said to those who were standing before him,

"Remove the garments of human excrement from him."

To Joshua the angel said,

"Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you,

and I will clothe you with pure vestments."

(Zechariah 3)


For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia.

For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.

Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death.

But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.

(2 Corinthians 1)
