(Rev 1:1-2) John is a witness to the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. This describes Christians in Rev 1:9; 6:9; 12:17; 19:10.

(Rev 1:5) Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and the ruler of the kings of the earth.

(Rev 1:5-7) Jesus has loved us, freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests, fulfils Exo 19:6. Coming on clouds fulfils Dan 7:13

(Rev 1:9) John is a FELLOW PARTNER IN THE TRIBULATION, the kingdom and the PATIENT ENDURANCE that are in Jesus.

(Rev 1:12-16) Jesus is described as a priest in the holy place and like God in OT-white hair, fire eyes, bronzed feet, voice like waters.

(Rev 2-3) The churches are suffering TRIBULATION, God’s people not removed but told to PATIENTLY ENDURE, rewards are aspects of Rev 21-22.

(Rev 2:2-7) Ephesus – have patient endurance, tested false teachers, will eat from Eden’s tree of life.

(Rev 2:8-11) Smyrna – have tribulation, will have tribulation 10 days, be faithful to death, won’t be hurt by second death.

(Rev 2:12-17) Pergamum-Satan’s throne there, false teachers, faithful when Antipas a faithful witness was killed. Hidden manna, white stone.

(Rev 2:18-29) Thyatira – patient endurance, false prophetess Jezebel similar to prostitute Babylon, will rule nations with iron rod.

(Rev 3:1-6) Sardis – all bad except a few people who will wear white robes and not be blotted from book of life.

(Rev 3:7-10) Philadelphia – patient endurance, kept from (Greek ‘kept through’) the hour of tribulation i.e. preserved c.f. John 17:15.

(Rev 3:11-13) Will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem and my own new name.

(Rev 3:14-22) Laodicea – all bad, not hot or cold just lukewarm. If repent then they will sit on God’s throne just as Jesus does.

(Rev 4) Emphasis is on the holiness, worship and unapproachableness of God. Unapproachable due to fire, sea and guarding cherubim.

(Rev 4:3-7) God described in terms of precious stones & a thunderstorm. 24 priestly-kings,7 pillars of fire, sea of glass,4 living creatures

(Rev 4:8-9) Living creatures day and night never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!"

(Rev 4:10-11) The twenty-four elders fall down, worship and cast their crowns before the throne while declaring God’s glory.

(Rev 5:1-6) No one worthy to open the scroll except Lion of Judah. John HEARS lion but SEES a slain lamb. Hearing & seeing a theme.

(Rev 5:6) Seven horns = all powerful, seven eyes = all knowing, seven spirits refers to Holy Spirit in all completeness.

(Rev 5:9-10) You were slain & by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe, language & nation. Made them a kingdom of priests.

(Rev 5:11) Creatures, elders, millions of angels, Worthy is Lamb who was slain, to receive power,wealth, wisdom,power, honor,glory, blessing

(Rev 6) First five seals occur throughout time between comings e.g. war, martyrdom for seven churches as well as today.

(Rev 6:1-8) The four riders of the apocalypse are summoned to appear before God’s throne for instructions. They are GIVEN power by God.

(Rev 6:9-11) God has ordained the number of his people to be slain for the word of God and for the testimony they express like John.

(Rev 6:12-17) The END as creation disintegrates. Great earthquake, sun black, moon blood, stars fall,sky vanishes, mountains & islands flee.

(Rev 6:12-17) The END as people hide among caves & rocks in dread due to the coming of God and the Lamb.

(Rev 7:1-17) John HEARS a lion but SEES a lamb. He HEARS a bride but SEES a city. Hearing & seeing gives two symbols of same thing.

(Rev 7:1-17) John HEARS 144000 of elect Israel before the tribulation but he SEES a great multitude from every nation after tribulation.

(Rev 7:1-17) God’s people sealed for preservation from/through plagues. C.f. Eze 9:4-6.

(Rev 7:14-17) Washed in blood of Lamb, serve him day & night in temple, God shelters, no hunger, thirst or tears, springs of living water.

(Rev 8:5) Prayers of saints result in peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning & earthquake.Saints is usual NT word for Christians.

(Rev 8:2) Seven angels blowing trumpets of war to bring about the fall of the world. Like seven priests blowing trumpets at Jericho.

(Rev 8:7) Third of vegetation burned, third of sea turned to blood, third of fresh water made bitter, third of lights are darkened. Exodus!

(Rev 9:1-12) Trumpet 5 = Woe 1. Demonic locust army GIVEN power by God to torment people not sealed. Led by Abaddon/Apollyon,angel of abyss.

(Rev 9:13-21) Trumpet 6 = Woe 2. Four angels bound at Euphrates are released by God to kill a third of mankind with their demonic cavalry.

(Rev 10:1-11) Mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in cloud, rainbow over head, face sun, legs pillars of fire, stood on land & sea

(Rev 11:1) Measuring & numbering indicates protection. Temple, altar & worshipers are three symbols of God’s people. Spiritually protected.

(Rev 11:2) Outer court & holy city not measured but trampled by nations i.e. God’s people experience suffer at hands of nations.

(Rev 11) The two witnesses may be both the people of God and two end time figures who share the same experience.

(Rev 11:3-4) Two witnesses, two olive trees, two lampstands, stand before the Lord of all the earth i.e. prophets.

(Rev 11:5-6) Moses and Elijah like. Fire comes from their mouths, that is, prophetic words of judgment not literal fire.

(Rev 11:7-8)The world in which witnesses are killed is described symbolically as Babylon, Sodom, Egypt and the Jerusalem that killed Jesus.

(Rev 11:9-13) Three and a half days dead then raised by God and ascend to heaven in a cloud (rapture). Same as Jesus.

(Rev 11:15-19) Trumpet 7 = Woe 3 = the END = return of Jesus. Kingdom has now become who was and is (no more is to come), judgment.

(Rev 11:15-19) The END i.e. flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

(Rev 12-14) (1) dragon (2) sea beast (3) land beast (4) 144000 on Mount Zion (5) 3 angels (6) harvest & winepress (7) standing by the sea.

(Rev 12:1-5) God’s people pictured as a woman in the heavens. To woman a child is born to rule, dragon desires to devour but child caught up

(Rev 12:7-10) War in heaven. Michael defeats Satan. The accuser of God’s people thrown down i.e. no longer to accuse before God’s throne.

(Rev 12:14) Believing community given borne on eagle wings and nourished in the wilderness. Exodus imagery.

(Rev 12:17) Dragon makes THE war against those who keep commandments of God & hold to the testimony of Jesus. Christians like John. Rev 1:9.

(Rev 13:3-6) Beast has a mortal wound healed like lamb that was slain. GIVEN a blaspheming mouth. Makes war against SAINTS i.e. Christians.

(Rev 13:6-8) There are two people – those who dwell in heaven (Christians even if living on earth) and those who dwell on the earth.

(Rev 13:8) If name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb then one will worship the beast.

(Rev 13:13) False prophet makes fire come down from heaven like the two prophet-witnesses.

(Rev 13:16-18) Mark of beast contrast to God’s people sealed.Mark of slavery, name shares character of beast, number shares destiny of beast

(Rev 14:1) God’s people – on the heavenly Mount Zion, with the lamb, names of Father & Son written on foreheads. Christians like in Rev 3:12

(Rev 14:3-5) God’s people- the redeemed from the earth, the first fruits of the Lamb, they follow the lamb, no false teaching or immorality.

(Rev 14:10) Earth dwellers drink the wine of God’s wrath poured full strength, tormented with fire & sulfur in the presence of the Lamb.

(Rev 14:12) A theme – Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

(Rev 14:14-16) One like son of man seated on a white cloud with golden crown on his head & sharp sickle in his hand. Jesus coming to judge.

(Rev 14:18-20) Those who dwell on earth like grapes in winepress of God’s wrath. Blood flows 40×40. Not in city i.e. not for God’s people.

(Rev 15:2-4) God’s people victorious standing by the heavenly sea in heavenly temple and singing the song of Moses & the Lamb. Like Red Sea.

(Rev 15:5-8) Seven angels dressed like priests holding bowls of incense coming out of heavenly temple. Heaven visions like earthly temple.

(Rev 16:1-11) Seven bowls of God’s wrath. Sores on those with mark, waters of blood for those who shed blood, darkness. c.f. Exodus plagues.

(Rev 16:10-11) People gnaw at their own tongues as they use the same tongues to curse God rather than use them to repent.

(Rev 16:12-16) The battle of Har Megedon. Frog like spirits deceive the nations in order to gather them for THE WAR on the great day.

(Rev 16:17-20) Bowl 7 is the End. Lightning, thunder, great earthquake, cities fall, mountains & islands gone, Babylon drinks wine of wrath.

(Rev 16:21) OT punishment for blasphemy was stoning. Great hailstones fall from heaven on people. God himself stones them.

(Rev 17:1-6) Two women are two peoples. Babylon the whore contrasts with Jerusalem the bride. Babylon looks beautiful like the bride but

(Rev 17:8-11) The beast has a number of incarnations. Was once manifested in Antiochus Epiphanies, who was, is not but will be again.

(Rev 17:14-17) The kings of the earth will make WAR against the Lamb and his called, chosen & faithful. God has put this in their hearts.

(Rev 18:1) After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory.

(Rev 18:2-24) The fall of Babylon is described using quotations from the Old Testament prophets.

(Rev 18:20,24) Babylon was the enemy of God’s people, that is, the church comprised of saints, prophets and apostles.

(Rev 19:3) The smoke of Babylon’s destruction goes up forever and ever resulting in the singing of Hallelujahs.

(Rev 19:7) Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and his Bride clothed in fine linen.

(Rev 19:11-16) One on a white horse, Faithful & True, eyes like fire, many crowns on head, robe dipped in blood, The Word of God.

(Rev 19:11-16) Armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, following him on white horses. Out of mouth sharp sword.

(Rev 19:11-16) Dash nations with rod of iron, on his rob & thigh name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

(Rev 19:17-21) Angel invites birds to gather for the great supper of God to eat the flesh of all men who had participated in the war.

(Rev 20:2-3) Satan seized, bound, thrown into a shut & sealed pit. Unable to deceive nations in entirety to gather for the war for long time

(Rev 20:1-9) ‘Deceiveì (20:3,10) is used of Satanìs activity during end-time tribulation in Rev. 12:9;13:14;18:23;19:20. c.f. Rev 16:13-14.

(Rev 20:1-9) In the Greek "the war" is used of the end time battle in Rev 16:14; 19:19; 20:8.

(Rev 20:4-6) Christians killed on earth for testimony of Jesus & word of God are raised in heaven and reigning with Christ for a long time.

(Rev 20:7-9) Satan released for short time 3.5 yrs and deceives the nations into gathering for THE WAR.

(Rev 20:9-10) Fire from heaven destroys the enemy. Devil, beast, false prophet all thrown into lake of fire. Maybe Armageddon = Gog & Magog.

(Rev 20:11-15) Great white throne, earth & sky flee, dead raised. Death, Hades & those not written in book of life thrown into lake of fire.

(Rev 21:1) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

(Rev 21:3) The dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be their God.

(Rev 21:4) Wipe away every tear from their eyes, no more death, mourning, crying nor pain, former things have passed away.

(Rev 21:5) He who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."

(Rev 21:6-7) To thirsty will give from spring of water of life. The one who conquers will have this heritage. Will be his God & he my son.

(Rev 21:10) Carried me away in Spirit to a great, high mountain & showed the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.

(Rev 21:11-14) New Jerusalem has the glory of God, 12 gates named after tribes, 12 foundations named after apostles.

(Rev 21:15-21) NJ is a cube with 12 edges of 12000 = 144000. Wall of jasper, city of gold, foundations of precious stones, gates of pearls.

(Rev 21:22-26) No need for sun or moon. God’s glory gives city light. Gates never shut. Nations bring their glory into the city.

(Rev 21:27) Nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, only those written in Lamb’s book of life.

(Rev 22:1-2) River of the water of life flows from the throne c.f Gen 2:10; Eze 47:1; Zec 14:8. Tree of life, leaves heal Gen 2:9; Eze 47:12

(Rev 22:3-5) No longer will there be any curse, servants will worship, see his face, name on foreheads, no night, will reign forever &ever.

(Rev 22:7) Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.

(Rev 22:13) I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

(Rev 22:14) Blessed are those who wash their robes so they may have right to the tree of life and that they may enter city by the gates.

(Rev 22:16) Jesus is the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.

(Rev 22:20) He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

(Rev 22:21) The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
